What are ICT for? (The Functions of information and communications technologies in organisations)
Abstract
ICT have made a great impact on the workings of organisations, even changing their very structure. ICT generate a range of effects, depending on the role they play in an organisation. This article looks to set out the four main functions of ICT in organisations, with their varying management needs and effects. To identify these four functions, there is a chronological summary of the impact of ICT in organisations from 1960 to the present day, leading to the setting out of the functional typology of each.
