Internet and learning: a close relationship

Josep Maria Duart

Abstract

Today, at the beginning of the XXI century, when excitement about the information society is at a peak, technology is increasingly becoming part of any learning process. Indeed, so much is its presence felt in our daily routines (telephone, computer, electronic diary, etc.) that it is logical to think that technology in general and information and communication technologies (ICT) - especially the Internet -, in particular, will become a normal part of any learning process. Otherwise, the youngest sector of society, those born with this technology, would find it hard to understand that it were not so; given that they normally go to the Internet to download music, communicate with friends, or search for information of all types, they would find it hard to accept that this technology were not used as an aid to studying subjects at school or university.
