Features that Knowledge Management should characterize in University and Higher Education Organizations for a Knowledge Society

Beatriz Fainholc

Abstract

Knowledge management plays a central role in the situational strategic planning of all educational organizations in general and in higher education in particular, and all the more so, with the advance towards a knowledge society. The articulation of information and communication technologies (ICTs) based on reticular and decentralized paradigms redefines the processes of communication and creation of symbolic products and should be given high priority. Knowledge management contributes to the training of individuals by strengthening strategic thought and action through the practice of synthesis that, with skill in specific domains and carried out with metacognitive strategies, should be used and shared by all users (teachers, students, administrators, etc.) to exploit knowledge and talent through ICTs. This is an important topic for "knowledge management" at the service (productive, ethical and solidary) of higher education organizations and remains a challenge for Latin America. Much work needs to be done to change viewpoints and tendencies.
